Get More Traffic With Good Content

What really makes a blog post worth linking to?  Everyone and their dog is blogging, but that doesn’t mean that every blog is worth reading.  Arkayne users know that creating linkworthy content should be your main concern because once that’s done, everything else will start to follow.  As people read your posts and recommend your blog you will gain more exposure, however without the content there is nothing.   Referring traffic, traffic from organic search and, in the end, direct traffic directly depends on how link worthy your content is.

If you read about linkworthy content, you’ll often find articles about the qualities the content should have.  For example, some SEO and search marketing experts talk about using humor or controversy, and others say you should be the first to scoop the latest news or use giveaways and contests.  While these tips can definitely help favoring a more pragmatic approach can be the best.  Look at the content within your niche that’s already getting links and then create similar content.  This is a good tactic because it takes a lot of the guesswork out of the equation.

What’s Already Working?

First, check out your referral stats to see what types of content are already attracting links.  When examining the links of competitors, look at the blogs with mid-level traffic instead of the super popular blogs.  These can often times have better contents as many of the A-listers tend to get links because of the sheer size of their audience rather than having the best content.  Once you’ve looked at a couple blogs, you should have a good idea of what is attracting links in your niche and you can start creating your own content.  Keep in mind that being an echo of everyone else will not build you up as much as original thinking, so try and draw new insights or conclusions to carve out your own path.

Start a conversation or become a part of one

Say for example someone criticized something in your industry.  If you are serious you will have an opinion about that, so Share it! If  you disagree, go ahead and write a post about it regardless of what the “authorities” are saying.  A unique point of view and strong arguments will help make your post interesting and linkable.

Eye Candy

How many times did you see different images, designs, or just pictures of people or places on the front pages of Digg.com or Reddit.com? These pictures, websites and images can sometimes be enough to cause a linking frenzy.  It can be done in virtually every industry as long as the imagery is captivating.

Promoting Link Worthy Content

Don’t be afraid to ask your friends, family, and professional connections to help get the word out about your link worthy content.  They might just be the spark that ignites the conversation and buzz about your content.  Also, distribute an online press release about your new content.  Many online press release distribution sites will get the word out, helping build more links to your site and bring in unique traffic.  Lastly, utilize Social media.  Send out tweets, post on your Facebook fan page, submit your content to bookmarking sites like Stumbleupon, Digg, Reddit, and others, and don’t forget about LinkedIn. If your link worthy content is centered around expert feedback or insider information, LinkedIn will prove essential as other professionals in your industry will want to get the insider scoop.

Awesome resource article. Small business now is faced with the most difficult task ~ resurrecting our broken economy. As small businesses, we can do things faster, better and with more personal touch.

WordPress is an amazing example of this. Instead of spending $3,500 on a website, a mom & pop can throw up a WP site on some Go Daddy hosting for a total of what? $50 a year? Instead of dumping money on bad marketing ideas, they can broadcast to the world how much they love what they do and attract an interested group of followers. Now they can start to love what they do and better serve their communities.

    Almost poetic.

If your business isn't built on a wordpress backbone ~ you need to make it happen as soon as possible.

    Great article dude.
