TEDxPhoenix Inspiring Talks About Community

Arizona’s first TEDxPhoenix conference is tonight. For those not familiar with TEDxPhoenix, it’s a local and independently organized event operated under license from TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design.  The global circuit includes people form all parts of the world and has garnered huge accolades for social responsibility and inspiration.

TEDxPhoenix

The power of TEDxPhoenix is that it has such a broad range of appealing and passionate topics.  The short 18 minute format means speakers keep things energetic and interesting.  You’re sure to learn more about topics you’re familiar with and get engaged in new topics you’ve never heard of before.  Either way its sure to be a rich evening of socializing, meeting new people, and sharing ideas.  That’s what TEDxPhoenix is all about.

Dear to our hearts at Arkayne are TED talks like “Inspiring TED Talks: The Web as Random Acts of Kindness” given by Jonathan Zittrain:

Jonathan Zittrain

In Jonathan Zittrain’s TED talk: “The Web as Random Acts of Kindness”, he covers the interesting development of online social responsibility. Using his example, information moves through the Internet the same way a drink gets passed down the aisle at a baseball game. People will deliver the beverage to the person next to them in a chain like fashion, not for money or praise but simply for the idea that it is the socially appropriate thing to do. He expands on that idea where web sites like Wikipedia thrive due to a legion of volunteers that monitor every nook and cranny of the site in order to keep it free and clear of inaccuracies and the scourge of SPAM. These people are driven by their desire to contribute to the community not for any sort of direct compensation. -  From Inspiring TED Talks: The Web as Random Acts of Kindness

Attend TEDxPhoenix and hear more great speakers like Jonathan.  We are proud to have the local Phoenix community led by Tomas Carrillo put on this excellent event.  TEDxPhoenix is happening Friday, November 6th, 2009 from 6pm to 9pm at the Mesa Center for The Arts, tickets are $5.  Its an amazing venue and sure to be the start of a great Phoenix tradition, for complete details and a list of the speakers visit the official TEDxPhoenix site.  The Arkayne team and I will see you there!
